Research Scholar Award Named in Memory of Ben Feinstein
The Foundation’s Research Scholar Award for gastric cancer research – created in partnership with the American Gastroenterological Association Foundation – has been named to honor the memory of Ben Feinstein, son of Wayne and Leslee Feinstein. Ben was diagnosed with the disease at age 17 and died after a courageous two-year battle. As 2012-2017 Foundation Board Chairman, Wayne was instrumental in establishing the award to attract brilliant young researchers to concentrate their work on gastric cancer.
The perpetual award is now known as the AGA-Gastric Cancer Foundation Ben Feinstein Memorial Research Scholar Award in Gastric Cancer.
To date, two research scholars have been awarded grants of $90,000 per year for three years. This funding enabled the first scholar to earn a major congressional grant to continue his promising research. We’re proud to announce that our second scholar will be presenting results from his early investigations during Digestive Disease Week in Chicago this June.
