Tiny Gastric Cancer Foundation scores big wins to accelerate research

Wayne Feinstein and the Gastric Cancer Foundation have an uphill battle: The disease is dwarfed in terms of patient numbers as well as research funding by breast cancer, lung cancer and others — and in the world of fundraising, size is everything.

The San Francisco organization, incubated at the V Foundation for Cancer Research, has no full-time staff, an army of “very part-time” consultants and a virtual executive director, according to Feinstein, the foundation’s chairman.
