Association of Proton Pump Inhibitors and Capecitabine Efficacy in Advanced Gastroesophageal Cancer

A new Jama Oncology study shows gastric acid suppressants (proton pump inhibitors) negatively affect capecitabine efficacy, an oral cytotoxic chemotherapeutic commonly used across cancer subtypes. This could be due to raising gastric pH levels, which leads to altered dissolution and absorption.
