Dental care before cancer surgery might be good idea

A new study from Japan shows patients undergoing major surgery for cancer may be able to reduce complication risks by visiting a dentist beforehand. “Oral care is one option for preventing postoperative pneumonia as postoperative pneumonia can be precipitated by aspiration of oral and pharyngeal secretions,” said lead researcher Miho Ishimaru of the University of Tokyo.
